What Drives Edward

Anna Kruchowski

On November 20, the second movie in the Twilight Series, Twilight Saga: New Moon, will premiere in theaters worldwide. Our C30 was prominently featured in the first movie and in this next chapter of the Twilight series the XC60 will be the star.

Now the cool part:  we’ve created a unique online campaign that emphasizes the natural connection between the main character, Edward Cullen, and the XC60. After all, Edward is a beautiful, powerful and protective character to millions of Twilight fans and the campaign “What Drives Edward” features those shared qualities and have enabled Volvo to play a prominent role in the Twilight Saga craze.

What Drives Edward.com – Online sweepstakes and contest:
Beginning today, fans can visit www.whatdrivesedward.com to enter an online sweepstakes to win a trip and two tickets to the L.A. premiere of New Moon on November 16. A second contest will run from November 1 to November 23 where fans will be able to play a challenging game that requires them to solve a series of puzzles closely related to the story. The first U.S. player who completes all of the puzzles correctly wins a shiny new Volvo XC60, just like the one Edward drives in the movie.

Around 1974 I found “The Annotated Dracula” by Bram Stoker, annotations by Leonard Wolf; a really great read – like having two books in one. Best part, in the first chapter someone was having Chicken Paprika for dinner in Budapest. Wolf’s annotation includes a recipe for that dish which was actually rather good.

So grab Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” to get the blood flowing (sorry couldn’t resist) and enter our contest.

  • [...] and movie sensation seems to have passed me over. My vampire knowledge goes about as far as the Bram Stoker book I referenced a few weeks ago. However, we have done some cool things with our cars being in the first two movies (C30 in [...]

  • I really love the series Twlight, I’ve been a vampire fan since i was in my teens and saw every vampire movie that ever came out. Twight is the best I’ve ever saw. Robert Patterson is great as a vampire, and kristy as bella could stop being so stressed, tayor as the werewolf is very sexy as well. The books are very different from the movie, but there is more action in the books. Good luck guys with the next three series. keep Robert as Edward.

  • I can’t wait to see New Moon in two weeks, just seeing Robert Patterson as Edward and Tayor as the Werewolf just excites me and to see what will happend in this movie. The car is one of a kind. I wish I could win that one.

I love the Vampire movies, all the way back to the 70′s. & I thought my favorite movie was Bram Stoker’s Dracula, but since the Twlight one came out & the vampires are so much more good looking, & the cars are HOT! I would love to win this one in the movie, it looks great in the trailers, & we all know Volvo makes great cars, so here’s to hoping.

  • Cynthia Sheffield says:

What drives Edward? An absolutly beautiful VOLVO!!!

  • Joni says:

I really like how Stephenie Meyer used very specific cars in her story like the silver Volvo and the Mercedes Guardian, most authors only describe the cars, not everything about them :) that has always stood out to me in these stories.

  • david says:

If i had more than just two thumbs well you know where going!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dan says:

Going back to Bram Stoker’s book, realize it was printed in 1897. The only mass communications tools were books, newsprint and of course Grandfather reading to his grandkids. The tale Stoker weaves was much like Poe and his twisted stories, like The Raven, just the visual imaginations must have haunted many a poor sole, probably more so than Stephen King does today.

Seeing New Moon’s trailers, seems lots of magic there for us all.

Come on man, these facts* and proof* i mean who is posting* lol :P

  • Joni says:

Dan I think the visual imaginations are what still haunts us now with movies. The only difference is that the movie is another’s representation. Whenever I watch a scary movie, which I must admit is not very often, they tend to stick with me for a while because of the images and implications that find their way into my imagination. I think that is how the Twilight bools are for a lot of people as well.
