Anna Kruchowski

One of our VCC engineering colleagues attended this year’s Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Conference. Below is a short email from him acknowledging our Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Braking for the upcoming S60.

This came to our head of regulations and compliance in Rockleigh, NJ:

Hi Adam,

Here are some short notes from David Strickland’s (Administrator at National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) keynote at SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) yesterday morning.

In the keynote, he discussed pedestrian impacts and CIB (Collision Imminent Braking) He specifically mentioned our system and that we are introducing it in the S60. To quote him our system is “exactly what NHTSA is looking for in the future.”

Following the keynote, there was a short Q&A with Strickland and Paul Mascarenas (VP of Engineering at Ford Motor Company). On a question on pedestrian safety, Mr. Strickland stated “Volvo has taken such a bold step forward” with the S60 system. He also stated he thought these systems show similar promise as ESC (Electronic Stability Control).
