Happy Earth Day
In April, Volvo partnered with the Wyland Foundation to sponsor a nationwide classroom mural contest inspired by Disneynature’s OCEANS and the coinciding eight-city “One Ocean, One Planet” mural education tour along the West Coast. Over a two-week period, the tour made stops at elementary and middle schools in Seattle, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, Fresno and Ventura, with the final stop scheduled for Downtown Disney in Anaheim, Calif. on Earth Day (Apr. 22). More than 3,000 students learned from educators, artists and scientists how to protect our marine life, watersheds and oceans, and also got to paint ocean-themed murals, which will be displayed at the Earth Day event.
As part of the sponsorship, Volvo donated the Volvo XC60 Art Car, which is wrapped in an image designed by renowned muralist and children’s environmental advocate Wyland for a 2010 United Nations stamp issue about ocean conservation. The Volvo XC60 Art Car was used to deliver art supplies to the schools along the tour and also shuttled Wyland to the premiere of Disneynature’s OCEANS, which will open nationwide on Earth Day. The car can be seen in person at Downtown Disney on Earth Day.
