I’m not going to ramble about who is best for what … to me, we don’t need to be defended, hacked to pieces on Facebook as to what we stand for, what our record has been, what we offer for the future. It’s just a no-brainer.
There is a difference between the marketing department telling management to build safety into cars because that’s what people want – like in the mid-50s when domestics made pink painted cars ‘for the little lady buyers’ – verses a company-wide mentality of building something to help protect people.
In a recent blog entry, I included the only picture I’ve seen showing our first child seat, introduced in 1967. Marketing didn’t do that – the company did.
Today, the XC60 is a premier example of what we do to help protect people and make their daily lives easier. We all have enough on our minds that we just need to get kids in the car and go. That being said, this acknowledgement (see below) is warmly welcomed here and in Sweden.
Between your next cup of coffee and your afternoon tablespoon of sugar – and certainly before you leave work today – how about voting for what Volvo stands for to our buyers and our company.

VOLVO XC60 IS FINALIST IN 2012 SHEKNOWS PARENTING AWARDS
Fans Can Vote This Month to Pick Award Winner
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (Oct. 1, 2012) –The Volvo XC60 crossover has been selected as a finalist for best mom car in the 2012 SheKnows Parenting Awards. According to SheKnows, the coveted award recognizes outstanding products in the parenting and pregnancy industry based on functionality, quality, safety and convenience. Winners will be selected by an organic voting process online and announced Nov. 5 on SheKnows.com.
The Volvo XC60 is a bold, sporty and safe crossover from the automaker that invented the three-point seat belt. Recognized as a top family vehicle, it offers attractive features such as integrated child booster cushions, allergy-free indoor air quality and City Safety, a world’s-first technology that can mitigate or avoid a low-speed collision by automatically applying the brakes if the driver is distracted.
SheKnows (www.sheknows.com), a global destination for women with the latest information on parenting, health, entertainment and more, created the award program to recognize products within the parenting industry for true excellence. Spanning across 75 comprehensive sub-categories, from pregnancy essentials to baby gear, and eco-toys to tween favorites, the awards highlight the best items that parents (and kids) love.
“While some features of the XC60 might appeal more to men, there’s an equal or greater number of features that appeal to women,” said Joe Haslem, XC60 brand manager for Volvo Cars of North America. “For Volvo, designing beautiful vehicles that best protect precious cargo is our reason for being. With that in mind, we hope voters select the XC60 as the best vehicle for moms.”
“The SheKnows Parenting Awards are a remarkable way to recognize the products that improve the lives of parents, parents-to-be and kids,” said Laura Willard, SheKnows parenting editor. “Being selected as a finalist among the hundreds of submissions we received is an incredible achievement and Volvo has clearly demonstrated they are a leader in the parenting industry.”
As a finalist, Volvo will also be eligible to win an Editors’ Choice Award, which spotlights one specific brand per category chosen exclusively by the SheKnows Editorial Team. Starting today and running through Oct. 31, readers can access voting by visiting http://www.sheknows.com/parenting/awards/parenting-awards-2012.
