My Valentine’s Day in Buttonwillow with K-PAX Racing
Valentine’s Day often evokes images of flowers, candy, candlelit dinners and romance. Well, I didn’t quite go the traditional route and, instead, spent the day with fast cars, rubber-burning tires, revving engines and 18 members of the K-PAX Racing Team in Buttonwillow, CA. With the start of the race season a little more than a month away, the team traveled to Buttonwillow Raceway Park for drivers Randy Pobst and Alex Figge to get in some practice runs in their No. 6 and No. 9 Volvo S60s while their crews made various adjustments to their set-ups throughout the day.
I had way more fun than I would’ve at a stuffy restaurant and spent most of the day snapping photos and interviewing Randy and Alex when they had downtime. I even took a ride around the track at one point. (Unfortunately, it was just in a rental car but still a thrill!) If the practice session is an indicator of the upcoming season, the K-PAX Racing Team looks like they’re in for a successful 2013!
The first two rounds of the Pirelli World Challenge are in St. Petersburg on March 23-24.

I’m sure it was a great time, Dan. 18 members of the crew! Holy cow.
I’d like to invite you to spend a weekend at America’s best road course in 2013. Come to the Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival at Road America and hang around with a bunch of genuinely nice group of men and women who race vintage Volvos at Road America. This is a class event, complete with a concours “On the Green” at the Osthoff in Elkhart Lake. Bring your spouse — she’ll love Elkhart Lake, which used to be the playground of the well-heeled from Chicago.
