There are three kinds of concept cars:
- Those that take an existing car and trick it out with body kits, panels, etc.
- Those that will never ever be built, just a designer’s dreams with committee approval.
- Then there are those that truly give a thoughtful, realistic sneak peek into a company’s future design language.
The Volvo Concept Coupé is the third concept. We’re not a car company that can spend millions of Kroner to just play games with products; we build to get ideas, opinions and measure pontential customer reaction. Concept Coupé is one of our boldest statements I’ve every seen in a concept. If you go back to the concept S60 that was shown at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, well here take a look.
Here is S60 Concept as shown in Detroit: Here is the real production car:
Aside from “Long Boat,” aka Viking raiding boats, not much changed from Concept to Production.
So where does that leave us with Frankfurt? With one of the most unique, beautiful Volvo’s we have ever shown. A project that brings forward ideas from our past coupes together with our modern Scandinavian design DNA in our next generation coupe.
Here are a couple of videos being shown at Frankfurt along with more photos and commentary by VCC:
