More from NYIAS
Here are some more videos from inside the New York International Auto Show (and one from the airport):
Our flight from Charlotte Douglas International was delayed 6 hours and the only power outlet left was under the arrival/departure TV monitors.
Here’s what our section looks like 12 hours before the first media arrive. Amazing how it’s all spic and span by the next day.
Peter, from Sweden technical support, is setting up where each car is displayed. Sometimes we have to take a car over to Regis and Kelly or for an auto show event, like World Traffic Safety Symposium. Keith, head of auto shows, just rolls his eyes and begrudgingly gets it done. It can be rather complicated to get cars moved out and back in when the show is about to start or during full public days.
Until next time,
Dan
NYIAS Kicks Off
Thought we’d give you something a little different this time. What is the inside of an auto show like? I’ll start on Day 1, with about 12 hours to go, and take you through Day 2 of media events. At shows, media get unique opportunities to interview industry executives, guys like designers, engineers, project managers [...]
Volvo City Safety will be at NCAA Final Four this weekend in Detroit
What’s in a Name?
Hi Folks, We have a quick one this week. Rather quiet around HQ, finally. XC60s are moving out to retailers and customers. There is almost an air of relief here that this project has finally come from wishful thinking to seeing them roll of curbs into peoples lives. Our past chief of design, Peter Horbury, [...]
Car Body Side Panel Stamping Technology
This came out last year, and I’ve been waiting for a good time to spring some interesting technical stuff on you guys/gals. This came from Corus who is one of our suppliers for steel stampings. Corus is second largest steelmaker in Europe and ninth largest in the world and on their home page, as of [...]
From There to Here
I suspect you know our cars come from Europe, well Sweden and Belgium – great Herring, great beers. They don’t arrive by magic or Viking long boats but really huge floating warehouses. I once took half a day to goof off and went down to Port Newark to experience massiveness. Ok, I saw lots of [...]
Graphic Man
So I’m sitting here, going through email and I open one from George Acorn over at www.swedespeed.com about a guy with an old 245 wagon with a little over 300,000 miles on it and he wants to know if we want it for our car collection. No, not really. That’s kind of middle age mileage [...]
We participated in an interesting event a couple of weeks ago
James Hope, from our PR group, had the good fortune to watch our cars be totally ripped apart by professional rescue people. This all started about four years ago. Bruno, in our Regulations and Compliance group, fielded a call from Champion Rescue Tools. They wanted to know if we would donate cars to be used [...]
