The ‘Naughty Volvo Tour’ Coming to a City Near You

Posted by danjohnston on Jul 13, 2010 in City Safety, S60, XC60, c70, distracted driving, pedestrian safety, safety

An S60 hello to you all.
Last year we took XC60 on tour. Our goal was to show something completely different in two ways: design and safety. No other Volvo ever looked as good, (okay, I think the first C70 Coupe was stunning, especially in Saffron color), but the XC60 was really the first showing of [...]

Cryptic Message

Posted by danjohnston on Jul 12, 2010 in General, Volvo History, distracted driving, news, pedestrian safety, safety, seat belt

Last week, after posting a short history of our seat belt, I received an e-mail from Sören, a man of very few words, always cryptic. His message was something like: “What, Clive and Mary.” And that was it. No clue what he was getting at.
I sent an equally sparse reply: ‘?’.  And of course, nothing [...]

A journey that started with a ‘Click’

On July 14, 2010, our simple life saving device, the three-point seat belt, will forever be a part of American history. The Smithsonian National Museum of American History will officially accept Volvo’s three-point seat belt into their collection. On that day, with a press event for media, business, government and Smithsonian officials, a little bit [...]

Word Smithing 101

When Toyota announced their Star Safety System, we started to scratch our heads like, “Gosh, what makes that so special?” I put together lists of what Volvo had, when we had it, when it was fitted, to what models, if there were any markets we didn’t have something fitted … and it became overwhelming.
So I [...]

What does the History Channel, a Spy Car, and soon to be crushed XC60 have in common?

Posted by danjohnston on May 18, 2010 in City Safety, XC60, news

A lot!
About four months ago the History Channel’s newest series, Sliced, called and wanted to get a seat belt and air bag to cut open. Told them we’ll give them a whole car and it seems we caught them completely off guard. We gave them an XC60 that was heading to US Customs certified crusher. It [...]

History Channel – Sliced – From Seat Belt to Flame Thrower

Posted by danjohnston on Apr 26, 2010 in XC60 General

In early January, we fielded a call from one of History Channel’s segment producers, Powder House Productions.  “We are starting a new show on History Channel, can you guys send us a seat belt and air bag?” In my world that’s on open invitation,  kind of like you going into a candy shop with five [...]

How about a contest?

Posted by Anna Kruchowski on Jun 15, 2009 in City Safety, General

Safety is difficult to demonstrate. BMW’s motor and exhaust sound great when you turn the key. Mercedes’ doors clunk like a bank vault. But, Volvo safety is well hidden, just waiting for that one miserable day in our life. XC60 has been different in that you can test drive our City Safety system at any [...]

VCOA meets VAPG

Posted by Anna Kruchowski on May 28, 2009 in City Safety, Volvo History

It’s always nice to meet folks who are as passionate about the Volvo brand as we are. A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend my first Volvo Club of America (VCOA) owners meeting at our super-secret test facility located outside Phoenix, Arizona. Actually, I’ll let the secret out of the bag. Internally [...]
