Volvo for Life.

XC90 – A Car for all Seasons
Volvo is about Life. What we build is from a Scandinavian culture that cares about people, I guess we could say a holistic culture. Our part in this culture is to help protect people inside and outside our cars during their most important and memorable events in their lives. [...]

George Perkins, Executive Producer – “Desperate Housewives”

Posted by danjohnston on Jul 30, 2010 in S60, V70, c70, news

A while back, we asked George if he would like to review our C70. Unfortunately, he was traveling in Hawaii at the time, leaving us no way to get one there within a reasonable time frame. However, upon his return, he took one for a state-side test drive.

Word Smithing 101

When Toyota announced their Star Safety System, we started to scratch our heads like, “Gosh, what makes that so special?” I put together lists of what Volvo had, when we had it, when it was fitted, to what models, if there were any markets we didn’t have something fitted … and it became overwhelming.

Durability

Posted by danjohnston on Jun 16, 2010 in Quality of Life, Volvo History, irv gordon, safety

We have two hard core corporate values: Safety and Quality. Used to be we called out Durability as a separate core value, but in reality it should have always been part of Quality. So to make life simpler for me (ok, a whole bunch of me’s) we added it to Quality.
What does durability mean?  From [...]

What can we do to stop 6,000 deaths annually? Today Starts Teen Safety Driving Week.

Posted by KristinS on Jun 7, 2010 in Quality of Life, distracted driving, safety

Last year 6,205 people were involved in a teen driving accident…and they died. Yes we should feel sorry for those whose lives were cut short – think of those who might have been our leader to bring world peace, a doctor, scientist, or artist. Perhaps it is our fault for not putting more emphasis on [...]

What does the History Channel, a Spy Car, and soon to be crushed XC60 have in common?

Posted by danjohnston on May 18, 2010 in City Safety, XC60, news

A lot!
About four months ago the History Channel’s newest series, Sliced, called and wanted to get a seat belt and air bag to cut open. Told them we’ll give them a whole car and it seems we caught them completely off guard. We gave them an XC60 that was heading to US Customs certified crusher. It [...]

Our Safety Center Celebrates Saving Lives

Posted by danjohnston on May 7, 2010 in Quality of Life, Volvo History, safety

Volvo Safety Center
10 years ago we moved from a very cramped, limited ‘real world’ crash testing facility to one that no one could top. One key feature was a movable track that rides on an air cushion, which can duplicate just about any kind of impacting angle where two vehicles could meet at varying speeds. [...]

Teens/Texting/Trying to Drive

Posted by danjohnston on May 3, 2010 in Quality of Life, distracted driving, safety

Below is a good piece on teen driving and possible ways to avoid deadly situations. Thinking about what we’re all looking for is to give teens more time to understand the physics of driving. Most have absolutely no concept that they are hurtling along with 4,000 pounds of metal and they have only basic understanding of [...]
